# Splitsy Club > Splitsy Club helps neighbors split anything worth splitting, from a Costco haul to any store’s big buy, so everyone saves. One person buys; the group agrees on when, where and how to pay. Splitsy Club is a website for coordinating shared purchases between neighbors. A host posts an item they plan to buy (often from a warehouse store such as Costco, Sam’s Club or BJ’s, but any store works), with the total price, group size and a pickup time and place. Neighbors join, the price splits evenly with an estimate of sales tax, and the group meets up and pays the host directly. Splitsy Club doesn’t process payments and isn’t affiliated with any store. Areas: San Francisco, CA; San Francisco Bay Area, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Seattle, WA; New York, NY. ## How it works 1. Post what you’re buying: The store, the item, the total price, how many people can split it, and when and where to pick up. 2. Neighbors join: The price splits evenly across the group, with an estimate of sales tax where it applies. 3. Meet up and pay: Grab your share at the agreed time and place, and pay the host however the group agreed in the chat. ## Pages - [Home](https://splitsy.club/): upcoming splitsies near you, how it works and the FAQ - [How it works](https://splitsy.club/how-it-works): joining and hosting a splitsy, step by step - [Split a Costco run in San Francisco](https://splitsy.club/san-francisco): Warehouse-size deals, San Francisco-size kitchens. One person buys, everyone pays their share, and nobody drives home with a year of olive oil. - [Split a Costco run in Seattle](https://splitsy.club/seattle): Costco got its start in Seattle, and the city still buys big. Splitsy Club helps neighbors split a run to the SoDo warehouse, Kirkland, Tukwila or any store, so everyone gets the bulk price without the bulk. - [Split a Costco, BJ’s or Sam’s Club run in New York](https://splitsy.club/new-york): Bulk buys and New York apartments don’t mix. A group buy. One person buys a bulk item from a warehouse store and splits it with people nearby, so everyone gets a smaller share at the bulk price. - How does joining work? Tap a splitsy, then tap +. You're in right away, you can see the meetup details, and you can message the group. - How do I pay my share? Splitsy Club doesn't handle payments. You pay the host directly, by Venmo, Zelle or cash, however the group agrees in the chat. - Is the price per person exact? It's the total split evenly across the group size, plus estimated sales tax where we know the local rate. The final amount depends on the store receipt. - Do I need a Costco (or other warehouse) membership? The host buys the item with their own membership, so people joining don't need one. - Where do I pick up my share? At the time and place the host set. The meetup details are in the group chat once you join. - Can I leave a splitsy? Yes, any time before pickup. Your spot opens up for someone else. - What happens if the host changes the details? Changes to the time, place, price or group size show up as a note in the group chat, and your profile shows a badge until you open it. - What do the little people icons mean? Each one is a spot in the group: filled spots are taken, empty rings are open. - Why can't I see a splitsy anymore? Splitsies close at their pickup time and leave the home page. If you were in one, it moves to "Past" on your profile. - How do ratings work? After pickup, people in the group can rate each other from 1 to 5 stars. The average shows on profiles. - What if I was removed from a group? The host can remove members and give a reason. You'll see it on your profile, and you can't rejoin that splitsy. - Is my location shared? Your location is only used to sort splitsies by distance; it isn't shown to other people. - How do I stay safe? Meet at the store or another public place, settle payment in the chat beforehand, and check ratings before joining. - What should I put as the total price? The full shelf price of the item before tax. We estimate sales tax and divide everything evenly across the group. - Why paste a product link? It fills in the item name and photo for you. Some sites, like Costco Same-Day, hide product pages, so you may see an emoji or get to choose the site's generic image instead. - Who can see my meetup instructions? Only people who join. They're posted as the first message in the group chat. - Can I edit a splitsy after people join? Yes. Your group gets a note in the chat listing what changed. You can't make the group smaller than the number of people already in it. - How big can a group be? From 2 to 20 people, including you. - Can I remove someone? Yes, from the group list on your splitsy, with a short reason that only they will see. - What happens to my unfinished splitsy? If you close the form, you can save it as a draft and finish it later from "or view drafts" or your profile. Drafts are saved to your account. - When does my splitsy close? At the pickup time you set. After that it moves to "Past", and the group can rate each other. - Can I delete a splitsy? Yes, from your profile. It's removed for everyone, along with its chat. - How is sales tax estimated? From the store's ZIP code, using monthly rate tables, and only for item categories that are taxable in that state (groceries are usually exempt).
